2018 RAM 1500

2018 RAM 1500

As the team at Caledon Chrysler celebrates the arrival of the new 2017 RAM 1500, believe it or not, it is already time to start talking about how amazing the 2018 RAM 1500 is going to be. According to reports coming from industry experts, 2018 is going to see the start of what will become a completely redesigned RAM 1500. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the 2018 RAM 1500 is that RAM plans to keep the current 2017 trims for another year to be sold side by side with the new truck. Some experts believe this is to make sure not alienate long time customers and to ease both commercial and retail buyers into what should be a complete overhaul in 2019 or 2020. Already an extremely popular truck, the 2018 RAM 1500 will have a lot to live up to, so we thought it would be helpful to take a closer look at what will stay the same and what will change.

According to the website 2018RAM1500.com, there will be no new engines built specifically for the 2018 RAM 1500. Despite this, there will be upgrades to the existing engines, which include:

3.0-liter DOHC cast-iron block 24 valve, EcoDiesel V6 engine that puts out 240 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 2000 rpm

3.6-liter DOHC, 24 valve chain driven Pentastar V6 that produces 305 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 269 lb.-ft. of torque at 4175 rpm

5.7-liter variable-cam timing, 16 valve HEMI V8 that kicks out an impressive 395 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 410 lb.-ft. of torque at 3950 rpm

All of these engines should come with improved fuel-efficiency and even a hybrid option. Some claim that the Pentastar may get direct injection and optional turbocharging and that drivers in the Bolton, ON area will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The body of the 2018 RAM 1500 should feature mostly steel, eschewing the trend towards aluminum construction. It will be lighter to help with the aforementioned fuel efficiency. As well, the cab design and wheelbase may be larger and longer including what is being called a "Mega Cab" look. Speaking of looks, there are conflicting reports of possible changes that may feature a raised hood, slightly different grille, and integrated back-up lights

As far as the interior, the odds are good that it will not be very different from the current 2017 RAM 1500. One major change that is expected is a completely new infotainment system, which is not a surprise because technology is changing at light speed.

While we can't guarantee all of these changes will actually be put into action, the 2018 RAM 1500 should continue the tradition of durability, reliability, and performance found in the new and pre-owned 2017 RAM 1500.
