2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye

2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye

If vehicles could be action movies, the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT would be an adrenaline-filled blockbuster. With a name like Hellcat Redeye, you know what the coupe is all about - speed. It's the most powerful muscle car available, pumping out 797 hp and 707 lb-ft. It's also the quickest and the fastest, sprinting from 0-96 kilometers per hour in just 3.4 seconds.

Introducing the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

The 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye is for drivers who choose seat-of-your-pants excitement over rationality. This is what you need to know about the muscle car that's breaking records and taking names.

Design

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye looks as cool as it sounds. Two key design elements are a dual-snorkel hood and a coke-bottle shaped body - both which pay homage to vintage Mopar muscle cars.

"We designed the SRT Hellcat Challenger's new dual-snorkel hood to focus on another key historical Mopar design element and pay homage to our past with a modern interpretation that looks even more sinister," said Mark Trostle - Head of Performance, Passenger and Utility Vehicle Exterior Design, FCA US LLC. "Whenever we design a new exterior element, we work hand-in-hand with the SRT engineering team to ensure that everything we create resonates with SRT DNA, is functional and meets their performance goals."

All Hellcat models are also offered with a widebody package, which adds outstretched fender flares to the mix. The additional width gives the car a more muscular, planted stance.

In addition to the standard (if you can call it that) Hellcat garb, the Redeye model gets special badging featuring a red jewel-like eye design. There's no mistaking it for any other Challenger.

Performance

When it comes to performance, nothing comes close to the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. The Redeye model churns out 797 hp and 707 lb.-ft. from a supercharged 6.2L V8. Those numbers are significantly higher than the 717 hp and 656 lb.-ft.  produced by the "base" Hellcat.

That kind of power doesn't come easily - Dodge engineers pulled out all the stops to make it happen. To start, the Hellcat's hood scoop is functional, allowing the engine to be fed by Ram air. An Air Catcher headlamp and inlet provide additional inflow near the rear wheel.

Even more innovative is the SRT Power Chiller. This device diverts air-conditioning refrigerant from the cabin to the supercharger as needed. Cooler air creates more power - and that's what the Hellcat Redeye is all about.

Of course, all that power has to get to the ground. The Hellcat Redeye makes it happen with a stout 8-speed automatic and upgraded torque converter. As before, rear-wheel drive is standard.

There's more to the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye than what's under the hood. Further performance comes from features like an adaptive dampening suspension, launch control, and Brembo brakes. So, the world-famous muscle car is at home both on the strip and the race track.

Technology

Siri and Alexa are unnecessary backseat drivers at the track. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye applies technology where it's most needed - power and performance. Advanced go-fast goodies include features like launch assist (to prevent wheel hop) and launch control (to optimize wheel slip for maximum acceleration). There's also line lock for burnouts and torque reserve to balance engine RPMs and torque. Plus, drivers can tailor their experience through selectable drive modes and monitor data via performance pages.
