2019 Dodge Journey Crossover Suv
Posted on July 30, 2020
Anyone looking for a vehicle that can do a lot of the work normally associated with a minivan, but isn't actually a minivan, probably has plenty of options to choose from. However, many of them will be large, luxury crossover SUV costing a considerable amount of money. If that's what a buyer wants but they're shopping on a budget, the options are considerably fewer. That's not a problem though, because the Dodge Journey is the perfect solution, and it has been for quite a while now. So, let's take a look at the 2019 Dodge Journey and see what it has to offer.
Styling
The Dodge Journey is a midsize seven-seat crossover that can do a lot of what a minivan does, but it does it with much more rugged, modern crossover styling. All versions of the Journey have that look to some degree, but if styling is particularly important to the buyer there's the popular Blacktop Appearance Package for SXT models that jazzes things up nicely with the likes of black roof rails, Gloss Black exterior mirrors, fascia applique, grille and 19-inch Gloss Black alloy wheels.
Interior
The interior of the Dodge Journey is all about practicality and versatility, which is where this minivan segment really comes in. The front two-rows accommodate five in comfort, but all versions of the Dodge are available with a third-row, if required. This isn't a full-size crossover, so those rear seats are more suitable for children, but it's nice to at least have the option of a third-row for those who may not need it at all. The second and third-row seats can be folded flat to create 1.915 cubic metres of cargo space, and the second-row can be reclined and offers available class-exclusive integrated child booster seats. The interior quality and comfort is excellent for the value, especially since it's affordable.
Powertrain
For those who want it, the Journey can come equipped with a modern, frugal 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine developing a reasonable 173 horsepower and 166 lb.-ft. of torque. It's the standard powerplant in all front-wheel drive versions of the Journey, and it's more than adequate for those who are not going to be regularly testing the load capability of the Journey to the limits. If a full load is going to be carried on a fairly frequent basis, or if a lot of time is going to be spent on the highway, the V-6 option is probably the way to go. The V-6 is a 3.6-litre unit developing a healthy 283 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, and it makes light work of handling a Journey filled to capacity with passengers and cargo.
Trim levels
For the 2019 model year the Dodge Journey will be available in five different trim levels. The entry point to the Journey range is the Canada Value Package (CVP), and from there the range goes onwards and upwards to SE Plus, SXT, Crossroad and GT. All models are front-wheel drive as standard apart from the GT, and the SXT and Crossroad can be upgraded to all-wheel drive as an option.
