2019 Ram 2500 vs 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
Posted on August 4, 2020
Among heavy duty trucks, the Ram 2500 and the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD are two popular choices. They've pushed the envelope for years, producing the best pickup trucks on the market today with unsurpassed capability. But when the two are compared head to head, which one is best?
Compare the 2019 Ram 2500 Laramie and the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LTZ based on performance, luxury, and of course, style, brought to you by your local Ram dealer in Bolton, ON, Caledon Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.
Style
Sporting classic Chevrolet looks from around 2015 that include chrome bumpers and grille, chrome 18-inch wheels, and chrome mirror caps and door handles, the Silverado 2500HD LTZ has some visual appeal. However, the redesigned 2019 Ram 2500 Laramie has a more striking appearance. Strategically used chrome accents, subdued black door handles, and 18-inch silver wheels give the Ram 2500 a more refined look than ever, and certainly it gets the nod in the style category.
Luxury
In the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LTZ cabin, there's a lot going on. Chevy's MyLink 8-inch touchscreen system, heated leather front seats, dual-zone air conditioning, and complete power selection make Chevy's heavy duty trucks tough to beat.
But Ram 2500 Laramie is up to the task. It has all the above and more. Standard features also include power-adjustable pedals, 10 speakers, an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen display, and one of the most spacious interiors in its class.
Plus, interior options include the best-in-class 12-inch Uconnect touchscreen memory seats and mirrors, second-row in-floor storage bins, rain-sensing wipers, and ventilated front seats.
Performance
The standard engine for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LTZ trim is a 6.0-liter V8 with 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque. That's a rather impressive figure by most measures which makes it capable of towing up to 5,897kg and carrying a payload of up to 1,466kg.
The 2019 Ram 2500 Laramie measures more. Its standard engine is a gas-powered 6.4-liter HEMI V8 that produces 410 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft of torque. That's more than 12 percent more horsepower, and that's going to give you better capacity. The Ram 2500 Laramie can carry up to 1,601kg payload and tow up to 6,604kg.
And if you need to work even harder, the Ram 2500 Laramie has the optional Cummins turbo-diesel engine with 370hp and 850 lb.-ft. of torque.
Fuel Efficiency
In this segment, EPA ratings aren't the benchmark for fuel efficiency. However, the Ram 2500 Laramie's HEMI V8 includes Multiple Displacement System, or MDS technology, to deactivate cylinders while cruising to save on fuel. Chevy's 2500HD does not.
On top of that, the 2019 Chevrolet 2500HD's 6-speed automatic transmission pales in comparison to the 2019 Ram 2500's 8-speed automatic transmission that reduces the workload and boosts fuel efficiency. That matters, especially with heavy duty trucks like these.
Of these two hardworking pickup trucks, the 2019 Ram 2500 is clearly on top of the class. You can see for yourself when you test drive the all-new 2019 Ram 2500 and other Ram trucks at your local Bolton, ON Ram dealer, Caledon Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.
