Seven Ways To Keep Your Vehicle In Tip Top Shape

Seven Ways To Keep Your Vehicle In Tip Top Shape

No one wants to spend extra time at the repair shop or the dealership, even though many of them have some sweet perks now like Wifi, snacks, workstations, and big leather chairs. Still, no one is going to mistake them for a day at the spa. Therefore, you should make every effort to keep your car on the road and in top shape. At Caledon Chrysler, we thought we'd help this noble pursuit, by giving you seven tips on how to keep your vehicle in tip-top shape for the rest of 2017 and beyond!

2017 Chrysler 300

1. Check Your Oil

This one is at the top of the list for a reason. Checking, and changing your oil if needed, will keep your engine in great shape. Failing to do so is the quickest way to destroy your car's engine, which will certainly make it hard to drive! So, check your oil and filter as often as possible.

2. Flush It Out

Giving your cooling system a complete flush and then replacing the coolants is critical. You can do this on you own, or have it done as part of a check-up at your mechanic/dealership. It will keep the cooling system running properly and prevent corrosion and build-up.

3. Clean It Up

While you might think of a car wash as a luxury, it is actually a critical part of automotive maintenance. This is especially true during the winter months because salt and road grime can build up and damage everything from your paint to your muffler.

4. Wax On

Speaking of the exterior of your vehicle, we suggest applying a coat of wax at least every six months. It not only looks great, but it also protects your paint and in turn your overall investment.

5. Grease is the Word

Moving parts need grease and cars have a lot of moving parts. If you ignore this basic concept you could be headed towards disaster. It only takes one or two small parts rusting out or seizing up to keep you off the road for a long time.

6. Wheel and Tires

While we all know (hopefully) to check tire pressure on a consistent basis, it is also important that you keep an eye you wheel bearings. There for you should inspect, clean, and repack wheel bearings with wheel bearing grease. If you don't know what to look for, take it to a professional, because a rusted out bearing can lead to a major accident.

7. Brakes

We couldn't image a more important part of your vehicle. You absolutely need to keep a close eye on your brake fluid levels and condition. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means that it attracts moisture. Old and diluted fluid will lead to corrosion of calipers and hoses, which in turn can cause brake failure. Nothing good comes from that so check your brake fluid often.

If you make sure to check off these seven tasks every few months, you will have a better chance of staying on the road and out of the shop. If you have any questions about how to take care of your specific vehicle make sure to check in with us here at Caledon Chrysler.
