What's the best 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trim Level for Me?
Posted on March 9, 2020
One of the things we like about the Jeep Cherokee is its utility. There are different trim levels available which let you personalize your Cherokee for just about every need. Whether you're a serious off-roader, you need to transport the kids to school, or both, there's a Cherokee for you. Read on for a description of the Cherokee models on offer.
Families on a Budget
If you're a busy parent, the 2016 Jeep Cherokee is an affordable, roomy choice. The Sport's affordable price and good fuel economy make it a sensible buy for those on a budget. It utilizes a sensible powertrain rated 11.3 L/100km when paired with Active Drive I. This four-wheel-drive system is highly rated for snow and other weather-related road conditions. This means you can always get the kids to school and make your way to work. There are 18 cubbies for you to tuck away books, snacks, and other must-have items. The rear seats recline for a more relaxing ride for teens. If you need a little extra cargo space, the Jeep Cherokee allows you to slide the chairs forward. Adding peace of mind, the Jeep Cherokee Sport boasts ten airbags and many crash avoidance features.
Safety Conscious Parents
If safety is your major concern, you'll want higher Jeep Cherokee trim levels. The North and Limited editions allow you to add the Safety-Tec Group package. This includes such features as a blind spot monitor, a rear cross-path monitor, and adaptive cruise control. The forward collision warning adds active braking to help you avoid rear-end collisions. The lane departure warning is strengthened by a lane keep assist, which helps you avoid a side-swipe situation. In addition to the standard rearview camera, drivers may appreciate the parallel and perpendicular park assist feature.
Fashionistas
It may interest you to know the Jeep Cherokee has earned recognition for its attractive interior. Every 2016 Jeep Cherokee comes packed with high quality materials. The North edition adds important aspects such as ambient lighting. However, the fanciest is the Limited. On the outside, it has brightly polished aluminum wheels, extra bright lower accents, and multifunctional mirrors with courtesy lamps.
The interior is packed with special Nappa leather and unique accents. Amenities include a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and a dual-zone programmable thermostat. Drivers will appreciate the remote start system and 12-way driver's chair. The in-cluster display centre is a 7-inch full-colour customizable screen. You can also get the CommandView Dual-Pane Sunroof.
Boaters and Campers
If you are an avid boater, camper, or any type of outdoor enthusiast, you'll want an SUV that lets you bring the fun along with you. An exclusive V-6 engine is available on the Jeep Cherokee Sport, North, Limited and Trailhawk editions. This makes it easier for you to match your personality to the Cherokee style you want.
The 3.2-litre Pentastar V-6 kicks out 271 horsepower and 239 lb.-ft. of torque. With the Trailer Tow Package, this V-6 boasts a best-in-class tow rating of 2,041 kg. It is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, a class first. To help you save fuel along the way, the V-6 can shut itself off during long pauses. It easily restarts when you hit the gas.
If you plan on pulling the Jeep Cherokee behind an RV, you want to be sure to get active drive lock four-wheel drive. This allows you to disconnect the driveline for flat towing. The rear cargo hold is rated for 697 litres with the rear seats up. If you get the North or Limited edition, you can expand that to 1,668 litres because you get a folding front-passenger seat as well as folding rear-passenger seats.
Four-Wheeling Adventurer
Jeep Cherokee editions offer Active Drive I for light off-roading. However, if you really want to head off the beaten path, it's Jeep Active Drive II you want. This is optional on the North and Limited, and it's standard on the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. In addition to Jeep's unique tuning for all-terrain modes, it has all-terrain tires and a locking centre differential to help with difficult situations. The 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk edition also gains more ride height and more skid plates. The Trailhawk look includes a black hood decal for the exterior. Inside, Ruby Red accents are stitched into the black cloth upholstery. Soft touch points make the cabin more upscale.
Tech Geek
Not surprisingly, the Jeep Cherokee is ready to serve the Tech Geek. In addition to the available safety tech, you can really load up on great dash tech. The Sport has a Uconnect 5-inch touchscreen with hands-free communication. It also has an SD card slot, auxiliary input and two USB ports.
On the other hand, you may favor the Jeep Cherokee North. It has three 12-volt power outlets and a 115-volt auxiliary power outlet. It also comes with a one-year subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio. The touchscreen radio adds integrated climate controls, making it easier to get the temperature you want.
If you've got to have the latest and greatest, then it's the Limited. This Jeep Cherokee edition has the Uconnect 8.4A multimedia centre with touchscreen navigation. Jeep has upgraded this system for faster processing, better menus, and greater ease-of-use. This model also offers an optional wireless charger.
Those Who Want it All
Who says you can't have it all? The new Jeep Cherokee Overland is the perfect Cherokee trim level for those who crave luxury and still want outstanding off-road capability. The inspiration for the Cherokee Overland came from the popular Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland trim. Standard equipment for this model includes the Jeep Active Drive II system with a two-speed power transfer unit and a low-range crawl mode.
On the outside, the Jeep Cherokee Overland gets a new front grille, along with new body-colour fascias, wheel flares, exterior sill mouldings and door cladding. There are new 18-inch bright aluminum wheels, an Overland tailgate badge, and standard HID automatic bi-xenon headlamps.
Inside, you'll find well-appointed amenities, including Zebrano wood trim, a leather-wrapped instrument panel and Berber floor mats. Helping to keep things comfortable is a 12-way power passenger's seat with four-way power lumbar adjust, while acoustic windshield and front door glass insulates the cabin from road noise. Audiophiles will love the nine-speaker premium Alpine sound system with a subwoofer. The Overland also features a Uconnect 8.4 NAV, which features an 8.4-inch touchscreen and GPS navigation.
As if that weren't enough, there's also a standard power liftgate, rear cross-path detection and a blind-spot monitoring system.
